1985 was a year of tiny yields due to frost and thus intense concentration. In their youth, these were powerful wines. However, this Salon shows an almost too rich evolution, with notes of toffee, truffle and caramel. The texture is dense and velvety, and while there is undoubtedly enough acidity to bring the wine into balance, it seems much further along than a bottle enjoyed five years ago. Disgorged 1999. Dosage 5g/L. (CC)

An enormously complex and rich wine that almost defies description. Golden apples, raisins and pears; bread, cream, vanilla, honey and nuts. The list goes on and on. Full and rich; the mousse is extremely fine and creamy-textured in the mouth

A wonderful, mature Champagne, offering toast, mushroom, honey and citrus aromas and flavors that evolve into a long walnut aftertaste. Its richness is offset by bracing acidity, yet not quite fully integrated. Full-bodied and aristocratic.
WS95November 2000
Knockout aromas of lemon, lime, toffee, grilled nuts, nutmeg and minerals; conveys a strong impression of soil character. Great thickness and brightness in the mouth; offers a compelling combination of lemon and orange citricity and complex yeast autolysis notes, and near-perfect harmony of young and maturing elements. This outstanding, elegant Champagne shows an extraordinary creamy richness yet is still rather folded in on itself. Has the sheer structure and grip to develop in bottle for a decade or two. Finishes with great nutty length
